Wooden floors are more often than not matchless when it comes to creating a homely everyday atmosphere in our homes. Of the various options in wooden flooring that are available, hardwood floors are one of the more popular and attractive ones.

However, for the hardwood floors in your home to remain looking great and last for many years, you need to take care of it. There are some easy ways to handle hardwood floor care in a comprehensive manner.

· Fairly simple and easily available equipment is sufficient for hardwood floor care. Contrary to a rather popular opinion that you will need a lot of assorted items to maintain a hardwood floor, all you will need are a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment, a soft bristle broom, and for certain occasions a reasonably damp mop and a fair number of towels.
· You need to realize that you do not have to clean you hardwood floor on an everyday basis. Of these items, you will find most use for the broom to sweep away the dust and dirt that accumulate quite quickly on your hardwood floor. You can use the other items as and when required.
· You can use the vacuum cleaner for your hardwood floor care on a weekly basis or every alternate week. While at it, you can attach the soft brush so as not to cause scratches and marks on the floor.
· In case you feel that mopping the floor frequently keeps the flooring and the house clean, you can use a damp mop. Here, you will have to ensure that the mop is not very wet so as to cause damage to the hardwood flooring.
· In the case of spills – that happen very often in our everyday lives – you can use towels to absorb all the liquid. You will have to have a lot of towels ready on hand for just these spills, as continued wetness damages the floor very quickly. Further, you will also have to ensure that the hardwood floor has dried up completely.

As a more long-term effort in hardwood floor care, you can choose to cover the hardwood floor with rugs. The rugs act to keep mud, dust and dirt from creeping onto the floor. However, you need to clean these rugs periodically and in turn, ensure that your hardwood floor remains clean.

Another important factor in hardwood floor care is that which is concerned with footwear. High heeled shoes and other kinds of heavy footwear create indentations and hollows on your hardwood floor. Therefore, you need to minimize stepping on your hardwood flooring wearing such footwear.
